Individual Therapy
My practice relies on science backed treatment approaches, some of which include social skills training, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral therapy. My approach is engaging, collaborative, and individualized to the needs of each person and family.
Common topics address in therapy include:
Social skills
Anxiety
Mood problems and Emotional Dysregulation
Behavior problems
Rigidity
Sleep problems (e.g., bedtimes resistance)
Toileting difficulties
Feeding problems (e.g., picky eating)
Parent Coaching
Parents and caregivers are an integral part of most treatment plans. However, there are added challenges when our children experience developmental differences and/or emotional and behavioral regulation challenges, which may necessitate more focused parent-only support.
Dr. Lickel works with parents who want to learn positive parenting strategies, as well as to address the general stress and anxiety brought about by parenting a child with unique needs.
Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluations
If you recognize signs of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in your child, or are in need of a re-evaluation for therapy for a child with a prior diagnosis of ASD, I can help. I provide initial and re-evaluations to children between the ages of 12 months and 18 years.
To determine whether someone qualifies for a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, I assess several different areas of a child’s functioning over the course of 2 to 3 sessions. Evaluations consist of:
Caregiver interview
Parent/teacher questionnaires
Observation of the child in their school may be a component of the evaluation process in certain circumstances
Testing includes developmental/cognitive testing, as well as observation of a child’s social abilities using well-validated tools (e.g., ADOS-2)
Feedback with family and written report
